Harlem × OceanPulse: Protecting the Spots We Ride
We spend our lives at the beach. Our sport exists because of healthy oceans, wind and coastlines — and that comes with a responsibility to protect them.
Today we’re announcing our partnership with Harlem Kitesurfing.
Who is Harlem?
Harlem is a Dutch kitesurfing brand founded in Haarlem in 2016, driven by a mission to challenge how high-performance kite & wing gear is designed and made.
Sustainability is at the core of that approach. Harlem’s entire portfolio of kites and wings is produced at Brainchild Production in Europe — powered by solar energy and entirely free of fossil fuels. Innovative production methods reduce water consumption by 75%, while water-based EcoInk, European suppliers, more eco-friendly packaging and the Harlem Upcycle programme further help reduce the brand’s footprint.
Over the past two seasons, Harlem has powered back-to-back GKA Big Air World Championship titles, Red Bull King of the Air and Megaloop victories, and a complete 1–2–3 podium sweep at Cold Hawaii.
For Harlem, performance, innovation and responsibility are all part of the same mission: Change The Tide.
Why we’re working with them
What Harlem brings us is people. Riders at the top of the sport, dealers in every market, and a community that shows up at events around the world. That reach is the difference between a clean-up with a dozen volunteers and one with a hundred.
Harlem is already working to reduce its impact through how its gear is made. Now, together, we’re extending that commitment to the places where that gear is used: beaches facing plastic waste, limited collection infrastructure and, in some places, rubbish burned in backyards because there is no alternative.
That’s the work we do. It needs hands, local partners and a community willing to turn up — which is exactly what this partnership brings.
What each side brings
We bring the method, the people who run it and the reporting; Harlem brings the community. This is not a product certification — we don’t audit Harlem’s gear — it is action on the beach, measured and published.
We’d rather prove a small thing than claim a big one.
Where this is going
Our long-term goal is to turn 50 of the world’s most vulnerable watersport spots into self-sustaining ecosystems by 2036 — moving them from reactive volunteer clean-ups to permanent, locally funded waste management. Partners like Harlem are how that scales.
"What excites me most is the community behind Harlem. Riders really get stoked on this brand. If we can get even some of those riders onto the beach with us, that's a huge step for the spots we all love."
— Fynn Hedrich, Founder and Chairman, OceanPulse e.V.
What we’ll do together
- Joint beach clean-ups with Harlem riders, dealers and local communities
- OceanPulse Movie Nights in the Harlem community
- Shared content and storytelling across both channels
- Fundraising support through Harlem’s channels
The first clean-up is being planned now and we’ll announce it shortly.
Where we are today
Since 2025, across seven countries — Ecuador, Egypt, Brazil, Colombia, Panama, the USA and Germany — we’ve removed 2,061+ kg of waste from coastlines and mobilised 344+ people.
Harlem is joining us to help those numbers grow, and we’ll report exactly how much after every clean-up. This is a long-term commitment, not a one-off campaign.
